Information for New Clients
Before your appointment
Please remember to respond to my reminder sms on the day before your appointment and to fill in my screening questionnaire if prompted. Please wear (or bring) comfortable clothes to your appointment. Fitted is better than loose. Leggings or tracksuit pants are good as are t-shirts and jumpers. Shirts with collars are less preferable. Please don't wear jeans or denim because its hard for me to feel through. Also no skirts or dresses.
Arriving and getting started
When you arrive for your first session I greet you at the door and show you where the bathroom is. Then we head upstairs to my studio. I'll offer you a glass of water and ask you to complete my Intake Form. Next its time for you to tell me about why you are here. We will chat for a few minutes and I'll ask questions so I understand your situation and needs.
Body reading and body work
Body reading is a process where you either stand or walk and I gently observe your movement and posture to give me insights into how I might assist you. I might ask questions about what you are experiencing in your body and I might ask you to move in ways specific to you. Then I'll ask you to lie on the treatment table and we will begin the bodywork. I will be fully present with you. I apply slow direct pressure to your body. The pressure is intelligent, precise and caring. I will 'listen' to your body and try to find the right pathways to restore ease and flow. This often includes images (eg imagine feeling weight in your bones and your thoughts melting) or movements (eg reach into your heel, soften your gaze etc). I will explain what I see and feel and offer education about anatomy, the nervous system or how the body moves as needed. The session is interactive and I am especially interested to hear how you feel. Questions, observations or requests are all welcome. Clients report finding the treatment very relaxing, calming, interesting and enjoyable.
Closure
Towards the end of the session I will invite you to sit up, stand and walk. This is an integration process where you begin to feel the changes that have occurred in your body through the treatment. Its a little like harvesting; I ask you to sense in your body any sensations that are new or changed, if your movement feels different or if you perceive any new qualities. Clients often report feeling heavier, lighter, or more 'grounded', or noticing joints moving more freely or less effort in standing. If you came in with pain then we will also see how that is now. I may offer you some instructions about your movement that you can practice at home. Finally we do payment and rebooking if required. We can discuss if you want to begin a course of treatment and how that might look.
