Discover Rolfing®

An interactive rehabilitation and embodiment practice developed by a remarkable woman, Dr Ida Rolf.

Dr Ida Rolf

The originator of Rolfing.

Gravity is the Therapist

Our bodies are designed to work in  gravity.

Embodiment

The living awareness of our physical body.

Dr Ida Rolf

1896 - 1979

Observed that lasting improvement to well-being required examining the effects of gravity on our bodies.

Dr. Rolf believed that the body functions best when in proper alignment. She said that imbalances in structure placed demands on the body's pervasive network of soft tissues: muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments, creating compensations throughout the body.

Gravity is the Therapist

Using bodywork and movement practices Rolfers™ seek to balance and restore ease in the relationship between our physical body and the gravitational field.

Embodiment

Embodiment (noun) - a tangible or visible form of an idea, quality, or feeling.

Whilst recovery from pain, stiffness and injury is a common result of this work, deeper discoveries often follow.

In a Rolfing session we awaken our connection to our living body.  Our body is not a static 'thing', it is not a machine.   It is a living. breathing form; a process.  When we consider ourselves from this perspective we are present to our whole self - body, mind and soul.

Sky & Earth

The philosophy that is at the heart of my Rolfing practice is one of sky and earth.  I see humans as existing between these two orientations.  The way in which we are open or closed to the flow of life is directly connected to our capacity to orient to, and be supported by, sky and earth.
